COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Counseling people in crisis is a significant part of pastoral ministry—requiring careful evaluation, the application of biblical principles, and practical guidance. Many pastors, however, feel unprepared to effectively shepherd their people through difficult circumstances.

While other courses and resources focus on content and advice for resolving specific challenges, this course pulls it all together by emphasizing the process and structure of biblical counseling. It provides church leaders with a practical framework for guiding sessions, from the initial meeting to the final session.

This short and needed course fills in some blanks for students wanting to approach counseling with greater clarity and confidence.

Dr. Pierre serves as the Lawrence & Charlotte Hoover Professor of Biblical Counseling at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and chairs the Department of Biblical Counseling & Family Ministry there. He also serves as a pastor of Clifton Baptist Church. Pierre’s writing has been featured in Tabletalk Magazine, Baptist Press, 9 Marks Journal, and the Gospel Coalition. He serves on the board of directors for the Biblical Counseling Coalition and speaks at various engagements in the U.S. and overseas. He co-authored “Theology of Christian Counseling” with Deepak Reju.

Deepak Reju

Deepak Reju serves on the board of directors of the Biblical Counseling Coalition and a trustee for the Christian Counseling and Education Foundation. As the pastor of Biblical Counseling and Families at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington DC, his passion is for studying God’s Word and shepherding God’s people. Deepak is the author of several books and articles, including “Great Kings of the Bible: How Jesus is Greater than Saul, David and Solomon“, “On Guard: Preventing and Responding to Child Abuse at Church“, and “She’s Got the Wrong Guy: Why Smart Women Settle“, and co-author of “Theology of Christian Counseling“.
